University in northwest China sorry for sacking cancer-stricken teacher who later died
College admits mistake in firing English instructor, says her position will be formally recognised

A university in northwest China has apologised to the family of a former employee who died after she was fired while undergoing cancer treatment.
Lanzhou Jiaotong University’s Bowen College in Gansu province published the apology on Monday, news portal Thepaper.cn reported.

It was addressed to former employee Liu Lingli, an English instructor at the college who died from ovarian cancer on August 14.
A group of university employees visited Liu’s family on Monday and announced that her position at the institute would be formally recognised.

The university also suspended human resources director Jiang Xueyun for firing Liu.
