Chinese villagers rescue family of five after car crashes into river
Group were travelling to hometown for holidays when they collided with another vehicle
Villagers in eastern China rescued a family of five on Monday after their car crashed and overturned in a river.
The family group, which included a four-year old boy, had set off early from Shanghai for their hometown in Jiangsu province on the second day of the week-long National Day holidays, the Yangtse Evening News reported.
They had almost reached their destination when their car collided with a white saloon at a crossroads in Yuanpeng village and flipped off the road into a river.
Startled by the loud crash, villagers nearby immediately rushed over and found the overturned vehicle half submerged in the one-metre deep water.
Someone called the police, and about a dozen villagers jumped into the river to help.
