A video of two young skateboarders speeding down a curvy highway in Hong Kong has gone viral online, prompting transport authorities to warn that the pair may have broken the law and that they should stick to skateparks.

A video of two young people skateboarding on the Hill Road flyover in Shek Tong Tsui has gained 312,000 views on the social media platform Threads. The pair are wearing helmets and gloves while travelling at high speeds on the flyover, which goes one-way through densely packed residential buildings.

In the video, the pair are sometimes seen spreading their arms and leaning down to maintain balance.

In a reply to the Post, the Transport Department cited the Summary Offences Ordinance, which states that any person who in any public place rides or drives recklessly or negligently or at a speed or in a manner that is dangerous to the public is liable to a fine of HK$2,000 (US$256) or three months in jail.

“Riding a skateboard on roads may contravene the above offence. Skateboard riders are urged to ride in appropriate venues, such as skateparks,” it said.
