Cold weather warning for Hong Kong on Sunday; but Lunar New Year break predicted to be warmer

The Hong Kong Observatory issued a cold weather warning on Sunday afternoon as a chilly front drifted across the Guangdong coast, with temperatures expected to dip to 11 degrees Celsius (52 degrees Fahrenheit) in urban areas.

The warning, the first of the year, was issued at 4.20pm, as minimum temperatures in urban areas on Monday morning were expected to drop to about 11 degrees and a few degrees lower in the New Territories.

The daily high for Monday will be about 15 degrees.

Temperatures on Tuesday were expected to range from 11 to 16 degrees.

The drop in temperature was caused by a cold front that moved across the Guangdong coast early on Sunday.
