Hong Kong issues first T8 signal of year as Typhoon Talim approaches, with warning to remain in effect until at least noon on Monday
- Bus companies to gradually reduce service overnight, but MTR trains to run throughout day
- Cathay Pacific says its flights not yet affected but delays and diversions possible in early morning

Hong Kong hunkered down for the onslaught of its first typhoon of the year, issuing the No 8 warning signal early on Monday as the intensifying storm Talim drew within 300km (186 miles) of the city.
The Observatory raised the warning signal to the third-highest level at 12.40am, and bus companies announced they would gradually reduce services overnight as a precaution, although the MTR Corporation said trains would continue to run unless conditions worsened.
The No 8 signal would remain in effect until at least noon, the forecaster said.
“Whether the signal No 8 will remain in force thereafter will depend on the changes in local wind strength, and how persistent the gusts associated with the rain bands of Talim will affect Hong Kong,” the forecaster added.
