Hong Kong issues cold weather warning with temperatures set to dip again

Cold weather expected to set in on Thursday night and persist into the following morning

The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a cold weather warning, forecasting that temperatures will drop to around 12 degrees Celsius in urban areas and lower in the New Territories.

The alert, posted at 4.20pm on Thursday, warned that cold weather was expected to set in on Thursday night and persist into the following morning.

Minimum temperatures in urban areas are predicted to hover around 12 degrees, with even lower readings – by a few degrees – in the New Territories.

Temperatures also dropped to as low as 12 degrees “over many places” on Thursday morning. It was 7.6 degrees at Ngong Ping on Lantau Island, 8.3 degrees at Tate’s Cairn and 9.1 degrees in Tai Mo Shan, the city’s tallest peak.

Temperatures in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tai Po and Sheung Shui were below 12 degrees.
