Members of Hong Kong’s private sector have continued to support residents affected by the latest wave of the coronavirus epidemic through donations of medical supplies, daily necessities and services.

Newly launched crowd-donation platform Share for Good said on Thursday it had received a string of donors from businesses, including HK$500,000 (US$63,894) worth of dining vouchers provided by the catering group Cafe de Coral.

Hong Kong-based genetics and DNA testing company Prenetics and genome-research organisation BGI Genomics also donated 10,000 sets of rapid antigen test (RAT) kits each to the platform, which was founded by developer New World Development and features partners including Yan Chai Hospital and more than 30 NGOs.

The donations were then distributed via NGOs to low-income households, families staying in subdivided units, seniors living alone, young cancer patients, people with physical and mental disabilities, homeless residents and members of ethnic minority groups.

The platform also called for individuals and groups to donate 13 urgently needed items including RAT kits, oximeters, cellular SIM cards, supermarket cash vouchers and protective face shields.

“No effort is ever too small and every donation provides meaningful support to those in need,” founder New World Development said in a statement.
