Hong Kong mother and 10-year-old daughter jump to their deaths from high-rise home
Housewife was apparently having marital problems; police are treating the case as murder-suicide for now
A mother and her 10-year-old daughter leapt to their deaths from their Tseung Kwan O home in Hong Kong on Wednesday night.
The 45-year-old housewife was reportedly upset with her husband, who wanted a divorce.
The woman and her child were found lying at the foot of a block at Residence Oasis estate, near the exit of Hang Hau MTR station at about 6.40pm on Wednesday.
The Primary Five pupil was confirmed dead at the scene, while the woman died in Tseung Kwan O Hospital.
Police said they had jumped from the balcony of their flat.
Two notes were found left by the pair in their home.
Police learned from a note that the woman had been troubled by her relationship with her husband.
The other note, which police suspect was written by the girl, showed that it was her choice to die with her mother.
But investigators are treating the case as murder-suicide for now.
The woman’s husband – an accountant from a listed firm – and his six-year-old son were not home at the time of the incident. They were later contacted by police.
The Kwun Tong district crime squad is investigating.
