Junius Ho: suspect arrested over stabbing of Hong Kong lawmaker remanded after attempted murder charge

An unemployed man charged with the attempted murder of a Hong Kong lawmaker who was stabbed during an election campaign event was remanded after a brief court appearance on Friday.

Tung Pak-fai, 30, is accused of attacking Junius Ho Kwan-yiu in Tuen Mun on Wednesday.

The pro-establishment legislator is running in the November 24 district council elections in the Lok Tsui constituency of Tuen Mun, against Democratic Party member Lo Chun-yu and Chiang Ching-man.

Tung, a Kwai Chung resident, was arrested shortly after the incident on Wu Chui Road. During his first appearance in Fanling Court, prosecutors asked for more time to conduct DNA and fingerprint analysis, as well to examine Tung’s mobile phone, tablet and two computers.

Prosecutors also said they were waiting for Ho’s medical report, and did not ask Tung to enter a plea.
