Hong Kong police launch murder-suicide probe after woman fatally attacked with a meat cleaver, husband found dead following suspected tower block fall
- Man’s body found at bottom of the Tuen Mun tower block where the married couple of about 40 years lived
- His wife, a 60-year-old civil servant, had been fatally attacked in her bed with a meat chopper

Hong Kong police have launched a murder-suicide investigation after a retired civil servant was fatally attacked with a meat chopper shortly before her husband’s body was found at the foot of the Tuen Mun tower block where they lived.
The 66-year-old man, surnamed Leung, was believed to have plunged to his death from the flat in Block 4 of Tuen Mun Town Plaza at about 3.40am on Monday.
A passer-by discovered the body at the building’s podium and called police, who visited the deceased man’s flat to find his 60-year-old wife, surnamed Foo, with fatal neck wounds and a 30cm-long cleaver lying next to her head, Superintendent Lam Hing-cheung said.
Leung, a retiree, was certified dead at the scene, while Foo was recorded as such at 5.25am in Tuen Mun Hospital, where she had been sent for treatment. No suicide note has been found.
Lam said Foo, a retired assistant taxation officer, suffered a 10cm gash to her throat and other cuts to her forehead and lips.
“There were no traces of a ransack. We believe the woman was attacked while asleep in her bed,” he said.
“Based on our investigation, we believe that the man attacked his wife first and then committed suicide by jumping out from his flat’s window. We are now investigating the case as a murder-suicide.”
