Hong Kong authorities are searching for a woman believed to own a truck that burst into flames in Kwai Chung, with the vehicle suspected of having been converted to carry up to 2,000 litres of black-market fuel.
The Fire Services Department received a report shortly after 2pm that the truck was ablaze at a car park on Container Port Road South in Kwai Chung.
Witnesses said explosions were heard as the vehicle was engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing high above the area and visible across western Kowloon. The car park is near Container Terminal 4.
Firefighters arrived and put out the blaze in about seven minutes.
No injuries were reported.
Online footage shows an intense fire consuming the truck, with thick smoke rising into the air. Vehicles passing on a nearby flyover appear to drive through a cloud of black haze.

The truck was reduced to a charred frame, while two nearby motorcycles were also damaged.
The Fire Services Department said it recovered two containers capable of holding up to 2,000 litres of fuel, alongside pipes and nozzles, from the scene.
The department earlier said it was investigating whether the vehicle had been used as a mobile illegal fuel station.
Authorities said the fire took place near sections of the Airport Express and the Tung Chung MTR line, beneath the Route 3 flyover.
They said the fire had risked affecting both the railway lines and drivers on the flyover, as the thick smoke could have reduced visibility, particularly on roads where it could impair drivers’ judgment and increase the chances of vehicle collisions.

Police are searching for the woman, the truck’s owner, to determine the source of the fuel on board and whether the incident was linked to illegal refuelling activities.
The case has been referred to the Kwai Tsing district investigation team for follow-up and further inquiry.
Authorities have recently focused on tackling illicit fuelling operations as oil prices soar amid conflict in the Middle East, with many suspected sites being raided in law enforcement drives.
The Fire Services Department once again urged the public not to patronise illegal fuel stations because they were not equipped with proper fire safety installations and equipment, and sometimes even operate on pedestrian walkways.
In the event of a fire, such sites could cause serious casualties and property damage, the department said.
The public could inform authorities about suspected illegal fuel stations using the department’s 24-hour reporting hotline, it said.
