Swedish transport executive Anders Lindström was yesterday fined HK$5,000 in Tsuen Wan Court after being convicted of stealing an expensive designer credit card holder at Chek Lap Kok airport.
The 60-year-old chief executive of Stockholm Public Transport has already been suspended from his job, which he has held since 2012, according to spokeswoman Lovisa Abom.
He has also been suspended from his post as a director of Stockholm County Council's transportation administration.
Lindström was charged by police on May 6 with one count of theft, after being arrested at the airport earlier the day.
He had stolen the credit card holder worth HK$2,400 from the Salvatore Ferragamo outlet on level six of Terminal One, according to prosecutors. Lindström pleaded guilty in court.
Abom said Lindström had been in Hong Kong to meet officials from the MTR Corporation, which operates Stockholm metro, before the theft occurred.
