The mother of a seven-year-old boy who cheated death in a plunge from his home on the third level of a Kwai Chung building was arrested by police.

The mother, arrested for ill treatment or neglect, was released on bail pending further investigation, police said on Monday.

A police spokesman said she would be required to report back to police later this month.

In the fall, the boy landed on a canvas canopy on the first floor. The impact was further reduced as he rolled from the canopy onto the roof of a parked car before hitting the ground.

The 42-year-old car owner immediately called for an ambulance.
