Duo, aged 12 and 14, disappeared after crossing border at Shenzhen Bay checkpoint

Police on both sides of the border are searching for two girls from a Tuen Mun school after they went missing together in Shenzhen.

The pair, aged 12 and 14, are reportedly secondary one students from Ju Ching Chu Secondary School in Tuen Mun.

They left their homes in On Ting Estate and Lung Kwu Tan and arrived in Shenzhen via the Shenzhen Bay border checkpoint on Sunday afternoon.

They were said to have disappeared near the checkpoint building on the Shenzhen side soon after crossing the border.

Their families made a report to Hong Kong police on Monday at Castle Peak Police Station in Tuen Mun. They also contacted Shenzhen police for assistance.

Shenzhen police posted an appeal with the girls’ pictures on its official Sina microblog. It said one girl had a black backpack while the other had a small suitcase.

The New Territories North regional missing person unit is investigating.
