Drill, code-named ‘Bravelight’, aims to strengthen Hong Kong’s counterterrorism expertise and coordination capability of government bodies
Hong Kong conducted its largest-ever counterterrorism drill, which saw strong levels of public participation, on Thursday afternoon at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal to simulate a terrorist attack on critical infrastructure.
The drill, code-named “Bravelight”, aims to boost the city’s counterterrorism expertise and the coordination capability of different bureaus and departments for responding to various forms of terrorist attacks.
The drill featured four scenarios. The first depicted a gunfight between police and terrorists, followed by a field triage of the injured. The third scenario involved evacuating and inspecting passengers on a cruise.
The final scenario took place in the waters outside the terminal, where officers rescued passengers held hostage on a hijacked boat.
Officers boarded the vessel to pursue suspects as firefighters battled the flames and rescued those who had fallen overboard.
A source earlier told the Post that more than 500 government officers would join the exercise, with 200 members of the public also to observe or take part.
