Hong Kong’s revamped Mong Kok Market Complex to temporarily house health centre
Former market building undergoing four-year makeover has received occupation permit and fire safety certificate, URA says
The refurbished Mong Kok Market Complex in Hong Kong is set to temporarily house the Yau Tsim Mong District Health Centre.
Urban Renewal Authority (URA) managing director Wai Chi-sing wrote on his official blog on Sunday that the former market building, which is undergoing a four-year makeover, recently received its occupation permit and the fire safety certificate.
“After approximately four years of technical research, detailed design and construction, the renovation project for the former Mong Kok Market has recently obtained the occupation permit,” he said, adding his team was now carrying out interior finishing and rectification work.
“The Urban Renewal Authority team is now carrying out interior finishing and repair work on the building.”
Once the work was completed, it would be handed over to the Health Bureau and relevant organisations to prepare for the centre’s operation, he added.
The development was in line with the government’s latest budget, which calls for the Yau Tsim Mong District Health Centre Express to be upgraded to a full-scale DHC within the year to enhance community healthcare services.
