Worker falls to death at Hong Kong construction site despite wearing harness

A worker fell to his death at a construction site in Hong Kong on Tuesday, despite reportedly wearing a safety harness.

The 62-year-old scaffolder was working on the fifth floor of a construction site at On Chuen Street, next to the Grace Industrial Building, in Fanling and fell sometime before 3pm.

His colleagues found him lying motionless on the ground and immediately called emergency services.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and found him unconscious. He was taken to North District Hospital in Sheung Shui but was later confirmed dead.

The man, who reportedly had more than 30 years of experience, was installing a nylon net on the external wall of the building before he fell. Investigators had also found that he was wearing a safety harness at the time of the accident.

The Labour Department has launched an investigation into the case.
