4 hurt as tree topples near Hong Kong railway station

Four pedestrians were injured after being hit by a 10-metre-tall (33 feet) tree that toppled near a railway station in northern Hong Kong on Sunday night.

Three women and a man were struck by the falling tree on San Wan Road near Sheung Shui MTR station in the New Territories shortly before 11pm, emergency services said.

The tree trunk was said to be 30cm in diameter.

Ambulance crews arrived and attended to the injured. The victims, aged between 25 and 63, were found conscious at the scene and received immediate medical attention.

A 25-year-old woman suffered a leg fracture. All four were taken to North District Hospital in Sheung Shui for treatment.

A police investigation is under way.
