A woman has been killed after being struck by a crane while working on a construction site in Hong Kong.

The accident occurred at around 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon at the site on Tai Po Road in Cheung Shue Tan, when the worker became trapped between the crane and railings after being hit by the moving machine.

Emergency personnel freed her, but she later died from her injuries at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po.

Police are investigating the incident and the Labour Department has also launched an inquiry.
