MTR services suspended after falling tree knocks out power supply on East Rail line
- Services between Fo Tan and Tai Po Market suspended, rail giant says
- Free shuttle bus service being arranged while services on the rest of line will also be affected
East Rail line services between Fo Tan and Tai Po Market will be suspended after a falling tree knocked the power supply out on Monday night, the MTR has said.
Services between Hung Hom and Fo Tan stations would run at six-minute intervals, 10-minute intervals between Tai Po Market and Lo Wu and 15-minute intervals between Tai Po Market and Lok Ma Chau.
The tree was reported to have fallen at University station at about 6.05pm, causing an overhead cable to catch fire and power failure between University and Tai Po Market stations, according to police.
At 7.20pm, the MTR said the objects entangled in an overhead line near Tai Po Market station had been removed and normal service was gradually resuming.
A shuttle bus service between Tai Po Market and Sha Tin would run for another 30 minutes, it added.
