A former gymnast from China’s national team who sparked controversy for her sexy dances on social media says she does the live-streaming job because she wants to “rewrite her destiny”.

Wu Liufang, 30, came under scrutiny last year when she was banned from a the social media platform twice for “breaches concerning law and regulations”.

Wu’s account was reactivated resumed in January, and she began releasing videos in March, Jiangxi TV reported.

During a recent public speech, Wu said she shifted her career from sports teacher to blogger in 2019 because she needed to make money to support her parents.

At the time, her mother was ill and in hospital, and her father had to borrow money to pay her medical bill.
