A man in eastern China has caused public outrage by throwing a Samoyed dog out of a 7th-floor flat window of a high-rise building during a fight with his partner, killing the animal instantly.
The police in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, have detained a 40-year-old man, surnamed Wang, after he hurled the pet dog from his flat, according to a statement police released earlier this week, Jiupai News reported.
The case is still under investigation and Wang is being detained for “throwing an object from height”, but it is unclear what punishment the man could receive, said the police statement.
The police were alerted to the incident by an online post about the dog’s death published by one of Wang’s neighbours, which went viral on social media last week.
The neighbour, who lives in the same building, wrote in the post that on May 4, while she was at home, she heard a loud noise from something falling to the ground. She said she initially thought someone had taken their own life by jumping from the building.
