Silent childbirth: midwife draws comics to guide deaf expectant mother through stages of labour, melting hearts in China
- The concerned medical team struggled to communicate details of childbirth, such as correct breathing and pushing, to the woman
- The series of drawings includes a pregnant woman lying in bed with explanatory text and a woman holding handrails with her feet on a foot stand

A comic strip guide to childbirth drawn by a midwife in China for a deaf woman having her first child has touched mainland social media.
Chu Hongmin, a midwife at the Shandong Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital in Shandong province in eastern China, sketched a comics series to help the unnamed deaf woman with giving birth, Star Video reported.
Chu met the woman when she was near her due time, but as both the woman and her husband are deaf, the staff struggled to provide advice and guidance by talking.
Although the woman showed some understanding, Chu said she still looked worried and uneasy about the birth.

The concerned medical team tried to find a way to communicate the details of childbirth, such as correct breathing and pushing.
Chu, who has drawing talent, came up with the idea of using hand-drawn comics to convey the necessary information. The team thought it was a good idea, so Chu spent about 10 minutes creating the birth guide comic series.
