A bizarre wedding involving a man and two women in China was cancelled after it sparked widespread public backlash and police intervention.

The invitation post for the nuptials, which featured a man in a formal black suit flanked by two women in white wedding gowns, quickly went viral on social media in Bijie in southwestern Guizhou province.

According to the invitation, which listed the groom’s name along with those of his two brides, the wedding was scheduled to take place at the Century Jiayuan Banquet Centre, a high-end restaurant in the city, on the afternoon of April 19, as reported by the news portal The Paper.
