An 86-year-old man in southern China who married his late son’s girlfriend to avoid being sent to a nursing home has sparked anger from his daughter.

Such was the woman’s ire, she broke down his door and cut off the electricity supply in protest, as she believes her stepmother is coveting her father’s property.

The family conflict has captivated mainland social media since it was reported by Guangzhou Daily.

The octogenarian, identified as Uncle Biao in the report, lives in Foshan, Guangdong province. His first wife passed away in 2022.

His son died in February of liver disease. A month later, Uncle Biao registered for marriage with his son’s girlfriend, surnamed Wang, who is 33 years his junior.
