After the euphoria of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, US Vice-President Kamala Harris and her team have to buckle down to the hard work of campaigning. Now, thousands if not millions of people around the world are waiting and watching eagerly to see if former US president Donald Trump or Harris will win in November.

As a student of history, I believe Trump has the upper hand. Harris has an ambitious economic plan to help Americans buy a house. However, she seems to have forgotten the housing crisis which had a significant impact on the economy. Moreover, Harris wants to control food prices.

Her plan goes against the principles of a free economy. Chicago is the cradle of Nobel Prize winners in economics, such as Milton Friedman, a staunch free-market advocate. Harris and her team should have taken a leaf out of his book.

Meanwhile, Trump seems to have been reinvigorated by the foiled attempt on his life. Now a member of the Kennedy family has joined his camp. As I pointed out in a previous letter, the Tang dynasty legend “The Tale of the Curly Bearded Guest” seems to be playing out.

The Kennedy family has historically been loyal to the Democratic camp. So, Robert F. Kennedy Jnr’s move is a shot in the arm of the Republicans.

As members of the global community, we do hope the most important post in the West will be filled by a capable person.
