Shanghai has a new way to deal with absent-minded pedestrians glued to their phones.
The city has embedded traffic lights in pavements and crosswalks, so that smartphone addicts can still see them while texting their friends. The system is on trial at major intersections across the city.
But that’s not all. According to state media CCTV, police say the new system also includes cameras that are designed to record jaywalkers. Photos of offenders will be broadcast in real time on a giant screen.
