‘Stop writing to K-pop star G-Dragon,’ YG Entertainment tells fans

YG Entertainment has asked fans of K-pop star G-Dragon to stop sending him so many letters as it has paralysed the operations of the army boot camp where he is undergoing six weeks of military training.

“G-Dragon is facing difficulties with fans sending too many letters to the unit,” YG Entertainment wrote on its official social media channels on Saturday. 

“Please refrain from sending letters and we will appreciate it.” 

The entertainment company added that the unit was currently struggling to control the flood of consolatory letters sent to G-Dragon and the emails that have shut down the online server.

“Emails have to be printed out on paper to be distributed to the soldiers, but ink and A4 paper in the battalion have run out and G-Dragon feels sorry for his fellow soldiers there,” the entertainment company wrote. 

“G-Dragon is thankful for his fans’ concern over his military duty. At the same time, he feels sorry he can’t read all the letters sent to him. But again, please consider the tricky situation G-Dragon faces.”

G-Dragon, leader of popular K-pop boy band Big Bang, enlisted in the army on February 27 to serve his 21-month mandatory military service in South Korea’s 3rd Infantry “Skeleton” Division stationed in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province. 

The region is in the middle of the Korean Peninsula, near the inter-Korean border. He is going through five weeks of basic training. 

Meanwhile, his bandmate Taeyang also joined the army yesterday with nearly 100 fans and the news media coming out to see the musician off. 

Taeyang did not make any official remarks but bowed to his fans before he entered the army building.
