A coalition of gyms has created a new body, called SafeFit100, to give a health and safety stamp of approval to gyms during Covid-19 that goes “above and beyond the requirements of the government”.

“SafeFit100 has today been initiated among members of the Hong Kong Alliance of Professional Fitness and Wellness Operators in conjunction with International Personal Trainers and Fitness Academy and the Hong Kong Alliance for Fitness and Wellness,” a press release said. Combined they represent 400 locations, 7,000 staff, and 300,000 members.

“SafeFit100 is an independent not-for-profit body governed by an Independent Steering Committee. It has been established to protect and serve the industry and the wider community amid the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The initiative will assess gyms for distancing measures, capacity limits, air-purification, weekly staff testing, mask-wearing and sanitisation. It will identify shortcomings, and periodically review the gyms. Fitness and wellness operators are able to apply for the SafeFit100 stamp of approval via the website SafeFit100.com.
