CrossFit Open 2019: What is Workout 19.5?

  • The final of five workouts has been revealed in Miami in a showdown between reigning champions Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey

Crossfitters can rejoice, the end is near.

CrossFit revealed the final of five workouts today, capping off five weeks of pain and suffering for CrossFit athletes looking to notch good scores for the 2019 CrossFit Open.

The details are below, called a “descending workout” which is timed and features dropping numbers of reps for each move:

Workout 19.5

33-27-21-15-9 reps for time of:

Thrusters (95lbs/43kg for men, 65lbs/29.5kg for women)

Chest-to-bar pull-ups

Time cap: 20 minutes

The athlete’s score will be the total time taken to complete the workout, or the total number of repetitions completed in 20 minutes.

The deadline to submit scores for 19.5 is 6pm Pacific time on March 25.

After workout 19.4, to no one’s surprise, Mat Fraser leads the men, followed by Lefteris Theofanidis of Greece and Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson of Iceland.

For the women, Sara Sigmundsdottir and Annie Thorisdottir from Iceland are one and two respectively, followed by Dani Speegle of the US.

The top 20 male and female finishers in the Open will punch their ticket to the 2019 CrossFit Games.
