The 2020 Reebok CrossFit Games will be competed remotely, and then the top five men and top five women will be invited to fight for the top spots in California. In the first round, 30 men and 30 women will workout from their homes or local gyms, vying for a chance to take part in California.

“The 2020 CrossFit Games are a go,” said CrossFit CEO Eric Roza. “At CrossFit, we are always energised by a challenge, and hosting a worldwide sporting event in the age of Covid-19 is no exception.”

“This innovative format will help us protect the safety of our athletes while delivering a world-class Games experience to identify the world’s fittest individuals.”

The 30 men and 30 women earned their places either by winning one of the sanctional events or finishing in the top 10 globally at the Open. Originally, over 250 athletes were set to take part, which included hundreds of national champions who finished at the top of their country’s Open rankings, but the field was reduced to 30 per gender because of the coronavirus.

The dates of the new remote competition will be announced in mid-August. CrossFit are consulting with athletes to figure out a timeframe that suits all.
