The CrossFit Games 2020 dates have been confirmed after the organisers discussed a suitable time with the competitors. The first leg will be competed on September 18 and last two to three days. Then, a final will be held in northern California from October 19 to 25.

The first round will be held between 30 men and 30 women, all of whom will compete from their homes or local gyms, with accredited judges on site. The top five men and women will progress to the finals with the chance of being crowned Fittest on Earth.

The initial 60 athletes earned their spots either by finishing in the top 10 at the Open, or by winning one of the sanctional events.

There was supposed to be over 250 athletes, including masses of national champions who finished top of the Open in their respective countries. But the field was cut due to coronavirus, and then last week CrossFit announced the at-home round to further mitigate the risk of spreading Covid-19.

“This innovative format will help us protect the safety of our athletes while delivering a world-class Games experience to identify the world’s fittest individuals,” said CrossFit CEO Eric Roza.
