Tia-Clair Toomey has praised her training partner Mat Fraser as he unexpectedly announced his retirement from CrossFit.
“I’m so proud of this guy,” she wrote on Instagram. “Over the last two years I had the privilege of training every single day with him. We went through so much both physically and mentally and I couldn’t have asked for a better training partner.”
Toomey has won the CrossFit Games for four consecutive years, the most of any woman. Fraser has won five consecutive Games, more than any man.

In the most recent edition in 2020, which was reduced to just five men and five women in California because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the pair were so dominant their victories were all but assured with a day to spare.
Fraser posted on his Instagram that he was retiring from the sport, saying: “I look forward to remaining a part of the CrossFit community. I just won’t be doing it from the competition floor any more.”
