Four cars, 11 watches, 10 properties, his wife's wedding ring - Fifa's Jeffrey Webb finds paying bail a hard nut to crack
Arrest of former vice-president of soccer's world governing body gives a glimpse of the lavish lifestyles of its top personnel

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Of the many facing former Fifa vice-president Jeffrey Webb, what car to drive today is no longer one of them.
Not only is Webb under house arrest and not allowed to travel, but his fleet of luxury cars is now in the hands of US marshals. They even got his wife's 2014 Range Rover, temporarily at least, which is now sitting in a government garage right next to her hubby's brand new Ferrari and all of it part of a princely haul to help him make US$10 million in bail. There are four cars, 11 watches - including five Rolexes, a Cartier Roadster plus a Breitling, Panerai, Royal Oak Offshore, Hublot and a Luminor Marina - as well as 10 pieces of property and, to top it all, off Mrs Webb's ornate wedding ring.
Webb was arrested on corruption charges on May 27 in a sweeping raid by Swiss authorities acting on behalf of the US government that also netted 13 other Fifa related executives. His is easily the most notable scalp in the haul and although he hails from the Cayman Islands, he resides in Georgia with his American wife and is the first of the defendants to agree to be extradited to the US.
Almost two months after the arrests in Zurich, we finally have a Fifa executive in front of a judge
Almost two months after the arrests in Zurich, we finally have a Fifa executive in front of a judge. When Webb appeared in a Brooklyn courtroom to plead not guilty to all 17 of the charges against him, it offered a rare and fascinating glimpse into the lifestyle of the Fifa elite.
Webb was one of Fifa's embattled president Sepp Blatter's closest allies. Charming and urbane, the 50-year-old was often mentioned as a potential successor to Blatter. And now here he was, forced to cobble together whatever he and his family had to make the US$10 million in bail, an inflated figure that speaks volumes about the severity of the charges. His wife, Kendra Gamble-Webb, is a highly respected gynaecologist in the Atlanta area and as she stood in a Brooklyn courtroom, with her parents and grandmother by her side, few could begrudge her if she had said: "Screw this crook, I want a divorce." They had been married less than two years earlier in a lavish and ostentatious wedding at the St Regis Hotel in Atlanta's most stylish suburb, Buckhead. Gamble-Webb described the St Regis as our "second home" and told a magazine she was attracted to Jeffrey because of his "morals and goals".
I guess love is truly blind, but even Carmela Soprano knew Tony's main income was not derived from being a waste-management consultant. If you get involved with a high-ranking Fifa executive who has a stable of luxury cars and properties and comes to pick you up in his brand-new Ferrari, you would think a red flag or two would go up. After all, it was hardly a secret that Fifa was an unscrupulous den of deceit and that anyone who was that close to Blatter had to be filthy by osmosis, if nothing else.
