Previously, Medvedev was President of Russia from 2008 to 2012, where he pursued a modernisation programme, launched an anti-corruption campaign and oversaw Russia’s accession to the WTO. He then served as Prime Minister until 2020. A lawyer by training, his responsibilities have included economic reform, national priority projects and chairing Gazprom. He is also Chairman of the United Russia party.
