The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is a governmental body headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, operating under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Its primary mission is to prevent and mitigate natural disasters, ensure transportation safety, foster industrial development, and enhance public welfare. The JMA achieves this by monitoring the Earth’s environment and forecasting natural phenomena. Its main activities include weather forecasting, issuing earthquake, tsunami, and volcanic eruption warnings, and conducting extensive research in meteorology, hydrology, seismology, and volcanology.
