New top admiral takes over the US Navy amid military firings

Admiral Daryl Caudle is named US naval chief, ending a six-month vacancy following the firing of his predecessor Admiral Lisa Franchetti.


Known for her naval career, she served as the 33rd Chief of Naval Operations from November 2023 until her removal by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth in February 2025. She made history as the first woman to hold this position and to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
