The Ministry of State Security (MSS): A prominent Beijing-based governmental body, the Ministry of State Security (MSS) is the principal civilian intelligence, security, and secret police agency of the People’s Republic of China. Recognised as one of the world’s largest and most secretive intelligence organisations, it possesses broad powers, including the authority to arrest and detain individuals for state security offences.
