Outgoing Indonesian President Joko Widodo held a cabinet meeting in the country’s planned future capital for the first time on August 12, 2024. Nusantara is expected to be inaugurated as the new capital on the country’s Independence Day on August 17. But uncertainty about the pace of construction of the city remains, with many related projects starting late and a 100 trillion rupiah (US$6.29 billion) funding shortfall.
