You have probably heard these news terms being discussed in the papers or on TV. This is how to use them in English:

1. 檢討委員會 - review committee

Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying has set up a four-member review committee, reporting directly to him, to look at the existing system and regulations governing entertainment expenses at the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

2. 退位 - abdicated

Queen Beatrix, of the Netherlands, abdicated after 33years on the throne. Her eldest son, Willem-Alexander, was sworn in as the nation's new king last week.

3. 執政聯盟 - ruling coalition

Malaysia's ruling coalition won the general election, to extend its 56-year rule, despite its worst ever showing.

4. 投票率 - voter turnout

Up to 13 million Malaysians voted on Sunday. The Election Commission estimated the voter turnout to be a record high of 80 per cent.

5. 臨時禁制令 - interim injunction

Mr Justice Godfrey Lam Wan-ho will decide whether to grant an interim injunction to force striking dockers to leave Cheung Kong Center - the headquarters of billionaire Li Ka-shing. Li's Hongkong International Terminals owns the docks.
