Hong Kong dog owners are telling public hygiene to take a walk

Pets
I totally agree with Maria Ignatova (“What Philippines’ Duterte can teach Hong Kong dog owners about cleaning up a mess”, April 25). Having pet owners walking their dog around can be such a nuisance in Hong Kong.

I have noticed that no matter whether the dogs are walked by the owner or domestic helper, they all seem to believe that just spraying some water from a bottle is sufficient to keep the environment clean, and so they can allow their dogs to relieve themselves anywhere they want.

Would they do the same if their pet made a mess on the floor at home? The smell and stain can be a real hygiene issue on our streets that has been totally ignored.

This practice is so widespread these days that I find it hard to tell whether the puddles on the street are just water or dog waste.
