  • Hilda Fung, a self-professed noodle addict, knows exactly where to go in Hong Kong for a bowl of tomato soup noodles that ‘are truly in a league of their own’
  • She reveals where she goes for ‘extraordinary cocktail creations’, as well as the French bistro she would choose to celebrate special moments

Hilda Fung is the communications manager for Japanese luggage brand LOJEL in Hong Kong, Macau and China. She spoke to Andrew Sun.

Growing up in a Chinese family, my taste buds were trained to appreciate Asian cuisine. If there’s one thing I’m absolutely addicted to, it’s noodles!

There’s something irresistible about slurping up a delicious bowl of any kind of noodle, from Korean ramen to jazzed-up instant noodles.

In Hong Kong, I have a few favourites that always hit the spot. For an easy and satisfying lunch or dinner, TokyoLima (18-20 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, tel: 2811 1152) is my go-to. It combines Japanese cuisine with innovative twists.

Their wide range of offerings makes it perfect for sharing with friends. One time, we celebrated a birthday there, and they surprised us with a cake. It made the whole experience extra enjoyable.

For new visitors, I make sure to take them on a culinary adventure of local Hong Kong food. One gem I absolutely adore is the dai pai dong Sing Heung Yuen (2 Mei Lun Street, Central, tel: 2544 8368).

Their tomato soup noodles are truly in a league of their own. And their lemon honey toast is a creation only found there. The combination of tangy lemon, sweet honey and crispy toast is so satisfying.

I’ve been a loyal customer for over a decade, and their consistency has never wavered. But be sure to arrive early, as they close at 3.30pm.

To unwind and enjoy some post-dinner drinks, my go-to spot is Quinary (56-58 Hollywood Road, SoHo, tel: 2851 3223). This bar stole my heart with its extraordinary cocktail creations. Each sip is a symphony of flavours and aromas.

An all-time favourite is their Earl Grey caviar martini, with delicate notes of Earl Grey tea intertwined with luxurious bursts of caviar. It’s an experience that truly elevates the art of mixology.

I’m an introvert who prefers intimate quality time with my beloved instead of extravagant parties or crowds. One restaurant that perfectly fits the bill is Bistro Du Vin (Shop A, 39-41 Cadogan Street, Kennedy Town, tel: 2824 3010).

This charming bistro offers a cosy and intimate atmosphere, perfect for celebrating special moments. The rustic French decor is warm and inviting.

You can find classic French dishes, from beef bone marrow to their signature lobster pasta. The desserts, including the soufflé Grand Marnier, are worth a mention too.

Overseas, I love Korea for its vibrant cuisine. The Jin Ok Hwa Original Chicken Restaurant (18, Jong-ro 40ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, tel: +82 2 2275 9666), which I first noticed from a travel blog, has become a must-visit every time I’m in Seoul.

The moment you step in, the smell of simmering chicken soup fills the air, instantly making your mouth water. The chicken was incredibly tender and flavourful, and the broth was rich and comforting.

In wintertime, it will instantly make you feel warm and satisfied. But what sets this restaurant apart is the option to add noodles and congee after finishing the chicken. When the noodles or congee absorb all the chicken essence, it’s heavenly.
