K-pop boy band EXO has been out of the public eye for months as a result of two members (Xiumin and D.O.) being conscripted and Chinese member Lay Zhang’s focus on China.

Industry insiders say the six remaining members – Baekhyun, Kai, Chanyeol, Sehun, Chen and Suho – have used that time productively.

Lead vocalist Chen plans to release his second solo album “Dear my dear” on October 1, which insiders say will show his “musical maturity”.

Kai and Baekhyun will play in project band SuperM, comprising members from K-pop bands under the control of SM Entertainment. The band’s first album is due for release on October 4.

Leader Suho is moving to the big screen, where he will star in a short film Gift with actors Shin Ha-kyun and Kim Seul-gi.

Xiumin, who is now in uniform, will star in the army musical Return: The Promise of the Day in Seoul from October 22 to December 1. The play is about people exhuming the remains of the war dead.

EXO debuted in 2012 with MAMA and shot to fame with the big hit Growl in 2013.
