Will Chungha and Somi join K-pop girl band I.O.I’s comeback?

Two years after their last concert “Time Slip” at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul in January 2017, K-pop girl band I.O.I are making a comeback, the group’s new album label representative said on Monday.

Studio Blu said on Instagram that nine of the band’s 11 members would reunite and release an album in October.

The agency said I.O.I would “start frequently informing the public how the band is preparing for the album as well as its upcoming schedules.”

How K-pop diva Chungha is Flourishing as a solo act

It quoted a band spokesperson as saying, “At our last concert we promised ‘Let’s meet again’, and since then each of us has been working hard. The biggest driving force was that we wanted to meet again our fans who cheered for I.O.I.”

Chungha, one of the returnees who had a significant solo career in K-pop this year, had not spoken at her June 24 press conference about her comeback with I.O.I But a few days later, rumours of the band’s comeback began to spread.

Somi, another of the original 11 members whose solo debut last month attracted attention at a press conference, had not spoken about the band’s comeback either. She isn't one of the nine returnees.

I.O.I was a project band formed by television audition show Produce 101 on Mnet in 2016. After the band’s contract expired the following year, the artists joined different agencies and continued their careers with a new band or as solo performers.
