The decor, menu, and linens of vegan-friendly hotels are things that can be appreciated by everyone – not only vegans.

All travellers can enjoy healthy dining options, cruelty-free toiletries and sustainable elegance.

Yet those who choose a vegan lifestyle do not necessarily want to sacrifice style, comfort or luxury.

Although staying in a treehouse or an eco-friendly beach hut might appeal to some, there’s a big market for upmarket vegan resorts and spas for those people who like a private pool, high-quality spa and gourmet meals.

Check out five places which offer luxury fully vegan suites or can accommodate vegan travellers. Keep them in mind for your next luxury getaway.

Hilton London Bankside

Created by food and design studio Bompas and Parr, this five-star Hilton hotel in London, offers a newly unveiled and highly anticipated fully vegan suite.

Traditional leather surfaces have been replaced with faux-leather Pinatex, which is created from pineapple leaves.

Gone are feather pillows, which are exchanged for plant versions made with millet hulls or bamboo. Everything in the room – from the carpet, headboard, toiletries, and snacks – is completely animal-free.

The hotel offers a fully vegan gourmet menu for guests, that can be requested upon arrival, as well as an in-room menu that includes delightful vegan breakfasts.

Guests can also take advantage of the vegan minibar, which provides local treats such as energy balls and fruit snacks.

SwaSwara

This wellness retreat is located in Gokarna, India.

Meaning “my inner sound”, the highly rated resort offers Ayurveda, yoga, hilltop meditation, naturopathy, cooking classes, massage and an art studio.

SwaSwara is an Earth-centred place where rainwater is used to water the organic gardens, food waste is composted and local medicinal herbs are used by healing therapists.

The on-site restaurants do not use meats, hard liquor, refined sugar or refined flour.

Eggs and dairy are limited, and a fully vegan menu is available.

Specially tailored meals are available for those completing wellness programmes, which promote weight loss and other healthy benefits.

The Yeatman Hotel

A luxury wine hotel and spa, set in the old town of Porto, in Portugal, The Yeatman Hotel offers breathtaking views of the city as well as a Michelin-starred restaurant.

This hotel is considered to be iconic in the world heritage city of Porto.

With fully vegan meals available upon request, guests can enjoy many plant-based options for breakfast and exquisite fine-dining for dinner.

In-room toiletries are vegan and guests can choose which type of vegan pillow to sleep on from the hotel’s “pillow menu”.

The Yeatman Hotel takes a strong environment-conscious approach by using solar panels to heat water; installing low-energy lighting throughout the property; using rain harvesting for garden irrigation; and, most importantly, providing purified drinking water for guests, thus eliminating the need for plastic bottles.

Fivelements

Fivelements is a fantastic escape, located in the Bali jungle, and a favourite honeymoon destination.

It offers wellness packages, vegan cooking classes, retreats and luxury spa treatments – all guided by traditional Balinese philosophies for a balanced life.

With gorgeous rooms and peaceful facilities, Fivelements also employs eco-conscious practices, including “air cleaning plants”, sustainable materials, and recycling of waste.

It supports local farmers and communities by buying local and environmentally friendly products, including fruits and vegetables.

Fivelements’ award-winning cuisine is fully plant-based, with a big focus on the raw food and its healing properties.

Guests can indulge in gourmet meals or try a detoxification programme involving “living foods”.

Gaia Retreat and Spa

Co-founded by singer Olivia Newton-John, Gaia Retreat and Spa is Australia’s most awarded boutique retreat, guided by a team of wellness professionals.

With a neuropathic clinic, a day spa, swimming pools and fitness programmes, Gaia is a fantastic place to unwind or to get active.

Most of the organic produce used is grown on-site.

The hotel takes a firm eco-friendly stance by using local, natural cleaning products and by recycling and composting waste.

What’s most impressive is it has aligned itself with the “Rainforest Rescue Regeneration Scheme” by planting thousands of trees over the past decade to help enhance vegetation in the area.

Although the cuisine is not fully plant-based, the restaurants have a large variety of vegan options to order a-la-carte and guests can be fully accommodated with a vegan menu if they make a request in advance.

Vegans can expect items such as superfood salads, fresh juices, muffins, and almond ice cream.
