Hong Kong Observatory drops T1 alert as Typhoon Haikui weakens, but predicts isolated thunderstorms and showers in coming days
- Weather forecaster says city likely to experience isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday and showers day after, with sunny intervals later in week
- ‘Showers associated with the remnant of Haikui are affecting eastern Guangdong and coastal areas,’ forecaster says
The Hong Kong Observatory dropped a No 1 typhoon alert as Haikui showed signs of weakening on Tuesday evening, but predicted isolated thunderstorms and showers in the coming days.
“Showers associated with the remnant of Haikui are affecting eastern Guangdong and coastal areas,” the forecaster said.
The Observatory said isolated thunderstorms were expected on Wednesday, while the city would see occasional showers on Thursday before enjoying some sunny intervals later in the week.
Saola was the most powerful typhoon to hit the city since Mangkhut in September 2018.
The two-day disruption from Saola included reports as of Sunday of 3,700 fallen trees, two mudslides, 21 flooding incidents and about 40 cases involving structures such as scaffolding, signs and windows.
