Shikigiku in Central opens a window on the wonders of Japanese fare

  • Battered crispy tempura with sea salt and Chiba eggplant with pumpkin and spinach are some of the culinary delights

Located where Inagiku Grande once stood, Shikigiku at IFC Mall offers kaiseki menus as well as the restaurant signatures of tempura, teppanyaki, sushi and sashimi. The Zen-like interior features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Victoria Harbour. The fun seats in the house are ­by the open kitchen where executive chef Masayuki Goto prepares the dishes.

Live shrimp are among the delicacies to sample at Shikigiku.

Must-tries are the lightly battered crispy tempura served with sea salt. There are several kaiseki choices including teppanyaki for lunch and dinner, and chef special menus that include sashimi, tempura, teppanyaki and a simmered dish such as Chiba eggplant with pumpkin and spinach. Wine and sake pairing is available.
