[Sponsored Article] Just this past Sunday (May 7), the Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club (HKAHC) organized an “Honour the Game” event in an effort to promote respect within the hockey community, not only towards the rules of the game, but also the game officials, staff, opponents, and one self. This is part of the Club’s continuous endeavour to encourage a good hockey culture and to take Hong Kong ice hockey to the next level.

2018 Olympic Winter Games

The 2018 Olympic Winter Games will take place in PyeongChang, Korea, 9-25 February 2018. The men’s and women’s ice hockey tournaments are scheduled to take place at venues in the city of Gangneung. Korea as the host nation will be qualified for both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

This spring has been a ground breaking time for some of the Hong Kong Ice Hockey Officials Associations’ young game officials. Perhaps the most of which centers around 25 year old Tracy Wong, who was the first female game official to represent Hong Kong in an international tournament.

After thirty barn burning games, the 2015-’16 Principal Standard League regular season has come to an end with the standings and playoff seeding which was determined by the outcome of that final game. This season was full of high scoring games and showcased the skill level and talent of Hong Kong hockey.

Another new ice hockey program was launched recently in Hong Kong; with funding support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) launched the Community Team Sports Program (CTS).

Principal Standard League Players Make History

This Chinese New Year, the Hong Kong U18 Men’s Ice Hockey Team journeyed to Cape Town, South Africa for the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship Division III Group B. Instead of joining in on the festivities back home, these boys are now battling hard in their double round-robin tournament against team New Zealand and South Africa. Although they are not going to get their red envelops in person this year, the Team got something much more memorable instead; a historic first win against home team South Africa.

HKIHOA Young Officials obtain international recognition

A new milestone was reached by a trio of Hong Kong Ice Hockey Officials Association (HKIHOA) game officials. Otto Chan, Andy Li and Robert Wong were awarded licenses with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). These licenses are the key to being eligible to officiate for various high level competitions and tournaments outside of Hong Kong.

The opening ceremony for the Jockey Club Ice Hockey Generation Next Program, supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, was one to remember. With a light show introduction and a full house surrounding the rink, fans of ice hockey and supporters of the development of the sport in Hong Kong made their presence known.

Jockey Club Ice Hockey Generation Next Opening Ceremony - Beginning of a New Era

With skaters clocked at more than 30km an hour, ice hockey is without a doubt one of the fastest team sports in the world. Hockey players not only need stamina for the intense skating and physical strength to handle body contact, but also discipline and focus to ensure that everybody on the ice can enjoy the game in a safe environment. This is precisely why the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club (HKAHC) decided to work together (forged a partnership) in implementing the Jockey Club Ice Hockey Generation Next program, focusing on the development of young leaders and promoting life-long sportsmanship through ice hockey.

Jockey Club Ice Hockey Generation Next Opening Ceremony - Beginning of a New Era

Youth Hockey League (Asia Region) Re-launched

Co-organized by the Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club and the Hong Kong Academy of Ice Hockey, the 2016-17 Youth Hockey League (Asia Region) re-launching ceremony was successfully completed on January 7 at the Shangri La Hotel in Beijing. Accompanied by two young players, Chinese Ice Hockey Association General Secretary Yu Tiande and Hong Kong Academy of Ice Hockey Chairman Mr. Thomas Wu officiated the launching ceremony.

Youth Hockey League (Asia Region) Re-launched

New Year, New Challenge

Only a month ago, the Hong Kong Women’s National Ice Hockey Team returned from Bulgaria, after placing second two years in a row in the IIHF Women’s World Championships Division II B Qualifiers. Their winter break didn’t last long though, as they’re once again getting ready for some fierce competition in the 13th Chinese National Winter Games.

Balancing Ice Hockey and Education … in Canada

As part of the effort to grow the love of ice hockey in Hong Kong, Stanstead College (located in Quebec, Canada) is offering six scholarships for a two week of the academic experience, plus a further 15 students will attend an Orientation, 6 day program, in April.
