Hong Kong’s women relay swimmers will aim for a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia in spite of star swimmer Siobhan Haughey’s absence, according to a senior Hong Kong swimming official.
Siobhan Haughey was born in Hong Kong and currently attends the University of Michigan in the United States. She is Hong Kong's leading swimmer and is the Hong Kong national record holder in the 200-metre freestyle. She won a gold medal in the 100-metre freestyle at the World Junior Championships in 2013. In 2016, she was named Swimmer of the Championships at the Big 10 in the US and helped lead her University to the team title. She qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and was selected in the women's 200-metre freestyle and 200-metre individual medley winning her heat in the 200-metre freestyle. She qualified for the final of the 200-metre freestyle at the 2017 Aquatics World Championships where she finished 5th.
