[Review] Kwok's on fire in disaster flick

Kwok's foray into the disaster movie genre with As the Light Goes Out proves him to be a versatile director.
A group of firemen - played by Nicolas Tse Ting-fung, Shawn Yue Man-lok and Simon Yam Tat-wah - puts out a small blaze on Christmas Eve. But it reignites and escalates into a huge explosion at the city's new electricity plant. The entire city loses power. There's also a subtext of climate change, which opens the door to an approaching typhoon. The firemen face a huge challenge.
Kwok has an amazing ability to build suspense, and the computer graphics add a surreal touch to it. The audience is nailed to their seats up to riveting finale.
With brilliant acting from Tse, Yue and Yam, As the Light Goes Out is set to be a highlight of this year's local cinema.
